Altar Society

"Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men"
Colossians 3:23, RSV-CE

The beauty, quality and appropriateness of the space where the Liturgy is celebrated are crucial for full participation by the assembly.  At St. Monica's Parish, volunteers in the Altar Society ensure that the general Liturgical environment (arrangement of space, furnishings, lighting, permanent decorations, etc.) corresponds to the aesthetic and ritual vision of the parish.  Also, the volunteers are responsible for handling and cleansing the sacred vessels used in the Mass and other sacred rites of the church.  It is the Altar Society’s honor to ensure that God's dwelling place is maintained with the greatest dignity, honor, and respect that it can possibly offer.
